COLORADO COMETS START SEASON WITH 2 WINS

The Colorado Comets opened their 2000 season last Friday night with a hard fought victory over the Colorado Springs Ascent. The Comets were sporting several new faces in their lineup with Joey Diedrich, Rich Hansen, Jake Brodsky, Jorge Romo, Todd Morris and Guillermo Concha all making their debut. The Comets out shot the Ascent 26 to 8 on the night forcing Ascent keeper Rich Cullens to make 12 saves. While the Comets controlled possession for large parts of the game it was only Chris Edwinson's penalty in the 73rd minute that separated the two teams. The penalty was a result of Rich Cullens foul on Guillermo Concha. Man of the match for the Comets was Chris Edwinson while Rich Hansen, Roby Monroe and Jorge Romo also had very good games. Rich Cullens was best on the field for the Ascent. Comets lineup - Cantrell, Diedrich, Fachini (Morris - 80th min), Hansen, Pinto (Stumpf - 55th min), Edwinson, Brodsky (Perdew - 54th min), Monroe (Mazen Kayali - 75th min), Romo, Concha, Maher Kayali (Smith - 88th min).

The Colorado Comets celebrated Easter Sunday with a convincing 6-2 victory over a very tired Kansas City Brass team. It was the third game for the Brass in as many days. Chris McCellan was making his debut in goal for the Comets and performed well on the day. The Comets led 3-0 at half time with goals from Jake Brodsky (assist Nelson Pinto), Maher Kayali (assist Zico Ward), and Kris Stumpf (assist Mark Perdew). Kansas City put up a spirited performance in the second half scoring two goals, but were unable to slow down the Comets who scored three more goals through Jake Brodsky (assist Mark Perdew), Kris Stumpf (assist Mazen Kayali) and Mazen Kayali (assist Zico Ward). Man of the match was Kris Stumpf with Joey Diedrich, Mark Perdew, and Jake Brodsky all playing well. Unfortunately Jorge Romo suffered a suspected torn knee ligament during the game and may be out of action for some time. Comets lineup - McCellan, Diedrich, Ward, Hansen, Pinto, Edwinson (Fachini), Brodsky (Concha), Monroe, Romo (Stumpf (Smith)), Maher Kayali (Mazen Kayali).

At the end of the weekend the Comets have secured top position in the Rocky Mountain Division with 9 points
