In a successful exhibition game event between the 1997 MLS Finalist, Colorado Rapids and the reborn USISL Colorado Comets of the PDSL, the game was unexpectedly close. The excitement started when Matt Harrell scored the Comets' 1st goal in the 15th minute on a pass from former USISL Allstar, Mark Perdew.

In the 29th minute, Rapids' Marquinho made a precision pass to Andre Nunley, who scored with a hard shot from 35 yards out.

In the 41st minute, Comets' Mahar Kayali won a rebound ball, dribbled through the Rapids defense, and scored an unassisted goal, making the score 2-1 in favor of the Colorado Comets.

In the 55th minute, the back and forth game was again tied when Colorado Rapids' Wolde Harris scored after a bad bounce sprung the ball over Comets' Goalkeeper, Justin Cantrell's head. Harris quickly pushed the ball into the net.

Both teams stepped up the pace. It was in the 75th minute when a Rapids guest player, Gustavo Degadillo, scored the winning goal.

After the game, Comets' Coach, Marc Francis said, "I am very proud of the way our players played, and the crowd loved it!"

The Colorado Comets' Season Opener at Mile High Greyhound Park is Sunday, May 3,1998, at 2:00pm vs Oklahoma City.
