COLORADO COMETS LEAD THE CENTRAL DIVISION AFTER DEFEATING THE OKLAHOMA CITY WARRIORS, 4-1, IN THEIR 1998 SEASON OPENING HOME GAME.

In the 5th minute, John Molet of the Colorado Comets scored a goal on an assist from "Zico"Ward. Shortly after that, Comets' Rafael Amaya, made a long cross field pass that overshot its mark, went over the Warriors' Goalkeeper, Jay Chaney, and hit the left goal post, missing a quick second goal.

Throughout the first half, Dave Adams controlled the defense, while John Molet, Matt Harrell, and Mark Perdew kept the Oklahoma City Warriors defense pinned down. The Warriors defended very well against the Comets onslaught. The score at the end of the first half was 1-0.

In the second half, the Comets continued their attacks, and the Warriors were showing signs of exhaustion. This was their second high altitude game in as many days. Matt Harrell of the Comets scored a precision second goal in the 59th minute, assisted by John Molet. Taking advantage of the celebration, the Warriors answered with a quick goal of their own, scored by Doug Gonsavez, in the 60th minute.

With 29 minutes left, Chino Melendez came in for Mark Perdew. In the following attack, Chino scored on his first touch of the ball on a great pass from John Molet. Next, John Fachini, came in with 16 minutes left, and scored in the 77th minute on an assist from Mark Smith.

Colorado Comets' next home game is Friday, May 8, 1998 vs Twin Cities. Kickoff is 7pm at Mile High Greyhound Park.
