Following a tornado that passed through the Minneapolis/St.Paul area causing severe damage in its path, and resulting in 31 airplanes being grounded due to hail damage, the Colorado Comets defeated the Twin Cities Tornado (well named) 2-0. Still leading the USISL/PDSL Central Division with 4 wins and 2 losses, the Comets follow their winning tradition as Coach Marc Francis continues to develop his team.
The game was back and forth, with each team trying to gain control, until the 27th minute, when Colorado Comets' midfielder, Nelson Pinto dribbled through and tried to cross the ball to Matt Harrell. However, the ball flew over Matt's head to Dave Adams, who quickly scored.
In the 2nd half, the Comets took over the game, until the final whistle. Chris Stumpf of the Comets, took a corner kick, sending the ball to the near corner. Marc Perdew ran from the back post, and flicked the ball into the net. With the Comets leading 2-0, Matt Harrell broke through the Tornado defense, creating a one on one with the goalkeeper. His shot went wide.
The game ended, with the Colorado Comets wining 2-0. Key players of the game were: Dave Adams, Mark Perdew Chris Edwinson, and Justin Cantrell, who saved 2 one on one attacks.
Making their debut in this game for the Comets were: Christian Broadhurst and Mazen Khayali. Both played very well. Gone is John Molet, who was drafted by the EISL for Pensacola, Florida.
The Colorado Comets' next game is at home on Sunday, May 24, 1998 at 2:00pm vs the North Arizona Prospect, when the Colorado Comets will try to even the score.
