7:00pm Kickoff - Overcast
Colorado Comets vs Colorado Springs Stampede

Excerpted from Live Game Update

Welcome to the final Home Game of the Colorado Comets' regular season. The Comets, winners of the USISL/PDSL Central Division, have a record of 13 wins, 3 losses, and 39 points.

This is the final meeting this season between the two teams. The Stampede ended their regular season with 5 wins, 11 losses, and 13 points.

Mile High Greyhound Park is, without doubt, one of the top soccer stadiums in the country. From the Press Box, you have full view of the Colorado Mountains and downtown Denver.

With 15 minutes in the 1st half, the game is scoreless, as both teams attack and counter attack.

The most pleasant surprise of the Comets' regular season is Matt Harrell, the high school phenomina, who ended the regular season as the team's 2nd top scorer, with 6 goals, 2 assists, and 14 points. Matt is sure to have a bright future in college and later in the Pros. We wish him well.

The other prolific player is Maher Kayali, who leads the Comets with 7 goals, 2 assists, and 16 points. Maher was injured in the Select Regionals last June, and has yet to return.

With only 18 minutes left in the 1st half, the game is still scoreless.

Comets' goal by Dan Huber in the 33rd minute on a thru ball from Jeremy Ballenger. Three minutes later, in the 36th minute, Jeremy Ballenger scored, assisted by Kevin Horn.

The Colorado Comets lead 2 - 0.

In the 41st minute, Comets' Jeremy Ballenger scored on an assist from Juan Fachini.

The 1st half ended with the

Comets leading the Stampede 3 - 0

On July 31, 1998, the Colorado Comets will play the Kansas City Brass in Round 1, the Divisional Playoffs.

The winner of this game will play the winner of the Des Moines - Twin Cities game on August 1.

The winner advances to Round 2, the Regional Playoffs, on August 7-9, 1998. The National Championship will be held in Kalamazoo, Michigan on August 14-16, 1998.

Head Coach, Marc Francis, has continued the winning tradition of the Colorado Comets. He has succeeded in winning, regardless of the loss of several key Comets: John Molet (drafted by the EISL), Mark Perdew (attending to his Summer Camps at the Singin' River Ranch), Maher Kayali (injured), Chino Melendez (Coaching Duties), and Christian Broadhurst (in Germany, practicing with German professional teams).

We wish Coach Marc Francis the very best in the PDSL Playoffs.

In the 67th minute, Matt Harrell scored the Comets' 4th goal, assisted by Nelson Pinto.

After the Comets cored their 4th goal, they started to play possession, rather than running up the score. The Stampede continue trying to score, but with 8 minutes left in the game, it is the Comets who are creating the most chances.

In the 85th minute, Mike Adams drove thru the Stampede midfield and made a perfect thru pass to Matt Harrell, who scored, giving the Colorado Comets a lead of 5 - 0 that lasted to the end of the game.

FINAL: Comets 5 Stampede 0
