The Colorado Comets, tonight, host the Division 3 Pro Team, the Utah Blitzz. In the 3rd minute of play, a great save by Comets GK, Justin Cantrell, prevented a long shot goal by Utah Blitzz.
Utah's players are obviously in very good physical condition. They are in constant motion, challenging the ball, making overlap runs.
So far, the Comets are holding their own against the constant attacks by the Blitzz, and initiating many of their own counter attacks.
In the 32nd minute, the game is still scoreless, but the pace is fast, both ways.
The Blitzz continued to attack in numbers, and defend in numbers. They are very fit. The Comets are playing very well. With the skillful leadership of #10, Chris Edwinson, and the good defensive work of #2, Joe Diedrich, the Comets have denied the Blitzz.
The second half continues the same pace. The Comets have been the more dominating team in the first five minutes, keeping the ball in the Blitzz's half of the field.
Some of the Comets playing are starting to tire. Subbing in, Mark Perdew has added speed and skill to the Comets attack.
Mark Francis, Coach and GM of the Colorado Comets has managed to put together a fiesty initial team for the 2000 Season. Expecting many key players later in the the season, the Comets should be one of the playoff contenders.
In the 68th minute, the Utah Blitzz scored by #25, McNicol, assisted by #6, Galloway. The goal was the result of the Comets defense being caught flat footed.
In the 70th minute, Blitzz #6, Gallowy scored, assisted by #7, Cassella. This happened while the Comets were still recovering from the 1st goal.
The Blitzz' superior conditioning as a team is becoming more and more apparent.
From the skills stand point, the Colorado Comets are evenly matched with the Utah Blitzz.
In the 81st minute, Comets veteran, Mark Perdew, #3, scored.
In the 89th minute, Comets goal by #14, Rick Hansen, assisted by Mazan Khayali #21.
The format now is two ten minute time periods and a 'golden goal' will win the game.
