WHAT: The Colorado Rapids host the Miami Fusion on Saturday, May 13, at 7:00 p.m. (MT) at Mile High Stadium. RECORDS: Colorado Rapids (4-5-0, 12 points) Miami Fusion (2-3-4, 10 points) RADIO: KCKK 1600-AM (English) KMXA 1090-AM (Spanish) 2000 SEASON SERIES: First Meeting ALL-TIME SERIES: Tied 2-2
Colorado hosts the Miami Fusion on Saturday night after losing their last two straight home games by a combined score of 10-2. After falling to Kansas City, 5-0, on April 29, the Rapids were defeated, 5-2, by D.C. United on Saturday. Colorado is only 1-2 at home in 2000, despite a 3-3 record on the road. The lone home victory was a 1-0 win over Tampa Bay in the April 8 home opener.
Colorado has never lost to Miami at Mile High Stadium, winning both of the meetings by a combined score of 7-1 (3-0 on 5/28/98 and 4-1 on 4/10/99).
Miami comes off a 1-0, overtime win over D.C. United on Wednesday. Brazilian forward Welton scored for the Fusion with to minutes remaining in overtime.
The win came on the heels on Monday's announcement that head coach Ivo Wortmann had been relieved of his duties. Wortmann was replaced on an interim basis by team broadcaster and community outreach manager Ray Hudson. Hudson assumes coaching duties while a search takes place for a permanent replacement, according to the Fusion.
Forward Jorge Dely Valdes, who missed Saturday's loss to D.C. United, returns to the Rapids after scoring the lone goal for Panama in a 3-1 World Cup qualifier loss to Honduras on Sunday at Estadio Nacional in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. With the loss, Dely Valdes and Panama must defeat Nicaragua in the group's qualifying match (Sunday, May 21 in Panama City) by at least five goals to win the Central American Group B and move directly into the semifinal round. The group runner-up faces an inter-zone meeting with Trinidad and Tobago or Haiti, where the winner would also advance.
Rapids midfielder Jason Bent will be back in uniform for Colorado on Saturday after missing last Saturday's game through red-card suspension. Bent was forced to miss the loss to D.C. United after he was red-carded in the second half of the 2-1 win over Chicago on May 3 for a tackle on the Fire's Carlos Bocanegra.
Midfielder Jason Moore is questionable for Saturday after spraining his left ankle in training on Tuesday. Moore is one of only two Rapids players to play in every minute of all nine games so far this season (Marcelo Balboa).
Colorado Rapids midfielder Seth Trembly will miss Saturday's MLS game against the Miami Fusion at Mile High Stadium to attend his senior prom. Trembly, 18, has spent this spring finishing his final term at Arapahoe High School while also playing for the Colorado Rapids.
