RAPIDS AND GORDON BIERSCH BREWERY TEAM UP FOR END-OF-SEASON FIREFIGHTER BENEFIT ON SEPT. 27

Team Awards Presentation, Check Presentation to Marcus Houston Foundation Highlight Year-End Party for Fans, Media

DENVER (September 24, 2001) - The Colorado Rapids and Gordon Biersch Brewery have announced plans for a season-ending party to benefit the families of New York City Firefighters lost in the terrorist attacks of September 11. All proceeds from the Thursday, September 27 event will be donated to the families of the fallen heroes.

Scheduled to kickoff at the Gordon Biersch Brewery/Restaurant at the Flatiron Crossing Mall at 5:30 p.m., the event will serve as the Rapids 2001 season awards ceremony, where awards will be given out to the team's MVP, scoring champion, defensive player of the year and humanitarian of the year.

In addition, the Colorado Rapids Community Care Foundation will present a check to Colorado University running back Marcus Houston for his "Just Say Know Foundation." The two foundations will partner up in a program called "I Go To College," developed by Houston, that aims to inspire children to go to college.

Fans and media are invited to the event, which is open to Rapids fans of all ages.

What: Rapids end-of-season Party Fundraiser. Gordon Biersch Brewery/Resturant and the Colorado Rapids Community Care Foundation will join together to raise funds for New York City Firemen family foundations. All proceeds on the night will go to this cause.

When: Thursday, Sept. 27. Party starts at 5:30pm. Rapids presentation onstage starts at 7:45 pm. Rapids Foundation Check Presentation to Marcus Houston Foundation, followed by Rapids Yearly Team Awards.

Where: Gordon Biersch Brewery/restaurant at Flatiron Crossing Mall, in the beer garden on the mall promenade.

Who: Open to all ages; Gordon Biersch is a family restaurant as well as a bar. Rapids staff, players and fans will attend, as will CU running back Marcus Houston.
