Disciplinary Committee Bans Kramer for Saturday Match v. Los Angeles

DENVER (Friday, July 12, 2002) - Major League Soccer's Disciplinary Committee has suspended Rapids goalkeeper David Kramer for one game and fined the player $250 for an incident that took place against the Chicago Fire on July 7. Kramer will miss the Saturday contest against the Los Angeles Galaxy as a result.

Following the conclusion of the game, the Disciplinary Committee reviewed a second half incident where Kramer and Fire midfielder DaMarcus Beasley made contact outside the penalty area. Referee Kevin Stott did not issue a card at the time, awarding only a free kick to Chicago, but upon further review after the match the league took action.

Kramer joins Colorado captain John Spencer on the sidelines for the match. Spencer will serve the first of a two-game disciplinary ban on Saturday.

The suspension will end a streak of four consecutive starts for Kramer, who compiled a 2-2-0 record with one shutout during that span. The 29-year-old Kramer currently stands second on the team's all-time wins and goalkeeper games-played charts.

Rapids Head Coach Tim Hankinson will call up a player from the A-League to serve as the team's backup goalkeeper for the match.
