NEWS RELEASE

After recording their first ever three-point win in Los Angeles on April 27, the Rapids are ready to head back to the Rose Bowl this Saturday for a meeting with the Galaxy. The Rapids have not lost an MLS game since the last time they played Los Angeles, a 3-1 loss on July 13 at INVESCO Field. With one regular season meeting remaining against their conference rivals, the Rapids lead the season series two-games-to-one, and are one spot ahead of the Galaxy in the Western Conference standings based on the results of those head-to-head meetings. Now in the seventh year of the divisional rivalry with Los Angeles, Colorado has never taken the season series. The game will be broadcast on Fox Sports Net at 8 p.m. MT.
Zach Kingsley, who joined the Rapids on June 19 as an A-League call-up from the Seattle Sounders, has become a fixture in Colorado's starting lineup. Kingsley, 22, has started each of the last four MLS games in addition to two U.S. Open Cup matches, and recorded his first league assist on Saturday against Columbus. The former University of Washington standout set up Chris Carrieri's 57th minute goal to help give the Rapids the lead. Kingsley scored his first MLS goal against the New England Revolution on July 27.
Colorado goalkeeper David Kramer reached a personal milestone last Saturday when he played his 100th regular-season game in the Rapids 2-1 win over the Columbus Crew at INVESCO Field. Kramer, who is in his third season with the Rapids, becomes only the eighth goalkeeper in league history to appear in 100 games. Holding a 4-2-1 record this season with Colorado, Kramer began his career in 1996 with the Los Angeles Galaxy, where he made 24 appearances, before moving on to play for the San Jose Clash (44 games). Kramer made the first of his 32 appearances with the Rapids in 2000, recording a 1-0 win over the Dallas Burn.
Rapids midfielder Chris Henderson, the Rapids second all-time leading scorer with 79 points, added to his career total again on Saturday night, scoring what would prove to be the game winner on a blistering shot past Columbus goalkeeper Tom Presthus in the 64th minute. Now at 10 goals, 5 assists on the season, Henderson not only leads the team in points (25 points), but in starts as well, as the only Rapids player to start all 22 games this season. With the goal, Henderson sets a personal new single-season goal scoring record, besting his 2000 performance in which he scored 9 goals and led the Kansas City Wizards to an MLS Cup title. The storied Rapids midfielder is just two points shy of his career-high single season 27 points * a mark also set in 2000.
Rapids forward Chris Carrieri continues to raise the bar for himself, recording a goal and an assist in Saturday night's 2-1 victory over the visiting Columbus Crew. The 2nd year Univ. of North Carolina product has now scored 8 of the Rapids last 15 goals - including eight points in his last four games - and has averaged 1.60 points per game after just 12 starts this season. Carrieri has far surpassed his rookie scoring mark of 5 goals, 4 assists as a definite offensive weapon for Colorado in 2002. With six games remaining in the regular season, Carrieri currently shares the No. 10 scoring position in MLS (23 points) with teammate Mark Chung.
After recording an assist on Chris Henderson's 64th minute game-winner on Saturday against Columbus, Rapids midfielder Carlos Valderrama reached double digits in the "helpers" category for the sixth time in his seven year MLS career. With 10 assists in 21 games this season, Pibe brings his career total to 108. The six-time MLS All-Star holds the all-time single season assist record of 26 - a mark he established in the 2000 season before coming to Colorado.
Fans of all ages will be in for a special treat at the Rapids' next home match, at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 24 against the San Jose Earthquakes. In addition to the opportunity to watch World Cup superstar Landon Donovan and the defending MLS champs battle the Rapids in a Western Conference showdown, the first 6,500 fans aged 16 and under will receive a special collectable Colorado Rapids lunchbox. Then, fans will have the chance to do their part to combat domestic violence by taking part in the "Event to Prevent," which will feature a soccer match (following the Rapids game) featuring the wives of Rapids and Denver Broncos players and entertainment provided by the Denver Broncos cheerleaders. In addition, the Denver Domestic Violence Task Force will have tables set up to provide educational material, community resources and other information about domestic violence. Finally, local music icon Nina Storey will host a free post-game concert for all fans.
