FOX SPORTS ROCKY MOUNTAIN TO BRING RAPIDS ROAD GAMES HOME FOR THE NEXT THREE YEARS

New Deal Calls For 10-12 Road Games To Be Televised Per Year

DENVER (Monday, March 2, 1998) - The Colorado Rapids and Fox Sports Rocky Mountain have reached an agreement where 10-12 Rapids away games will be televised on Fox Sports Rocky Mountain beginning with the 1998 Major League Soccer season.

The three-year deal continues a relationship started in 1997 where the regional sports network carried eleven Rapids games, including one playoff contest.

Rapids general manager Dan Counce said the deal means the Rapids can be followed all over the region.

"With the channel's reach to Nebraska, Kansas, Utah and Wyoming, this gives Rapids fans from outside of Colorado who are far away from Mile High the chance to see the team play a great deal over the next few years," said Counce. "The length of the deal also shows the commitment we are making to Colorado, and even more so, the commitment Fox is making to the Rapids and Major League Soccer."

The Fox Sports Rocky Mountain deal ensures that a great number of road games will be aired back to Colorado in 1998, as ESPN and ESPN2 will carry one away game each, and the MLS Univision schedule is yet to be announced. In addition, ESPN will carry one Rapids home game and ESPN2 will air three games from Mile High Stadium.

The Colorado Rapids and Major League Soccer are entering their third year in existence. The Rapids, who play in the Western Conference of the twelve-team league, won the 1997 Westem Conference Championship and enjoyed an 18% increase in attendance over year one.
