NEWS RELEASE

DENVER (Friday, March 5, 1998) - The Colorado Rapids today traded forward Steve Rammel to the MetroStars in exchange for a 1999 first-round supplemental draft choice.
Rammel played in ten regular season and five playoff games after coming to the Rapids in July via a trade from D.C. United for forward Roy Wegerle. After scoring 15 goals for United in 32 games in 1996 and 11 games in 1997, Rammel did not record a point in his 15 appearances for Colorado.
Rapids coach Glenn "Mooch" Myernick said he hopes Rammel re-discovers his scoring touch with the MetroStars.
"Playing time for Steve would have been limited here, and the MetroStars expressed an interest in Steve in part due to his New Jersey roots. It is a good move for both parties involved," said Myernick.
The New Jersey native was to be one of a packed stable of forwards that currently includes Paul Bravo, Wolde Harris, Marquis White, Jason Boyce and Tyrone Marshall. Myernick also fueled speculation that the move opens the door for another transaction.
"Yes, that was part of it. We are hoping to make another major announcement regarding an international-caliber goal-scorer in a couple of weeks. Coming on the heels of signing a great play-maker in Marquinho, this move does give us some room to maneuver," added Myernick.
