4/25 RAPIDS 5 CHICAGO 4 (SO) Rapids Goals: Paule(1) Waldir(2) Waldir(3) Bravo(3)
Sat. 5/2 Miami Fusion Lockhart Stadium 5:30 pm MST
Rapids forward Paul Bravo was named MLS Fujifilm Player of the Week following his one-goal, two-assist performance in Colorado's 5-4 shootout win over the Chicago Fire. Bravo also scored the game-winning goal in the shootout.
On the season, Bravo is fourth in the league in scoring with ten points on three goals and four assists.
Following the four-goal outburst on Saturday, the Rapids have now scored ten goals over their last three games, setting a team record for the most goals over a three-game stretch. The previous record was eight goals over three games, a mark the Rapids reached on three separate occasions.
Colorado will play an exhibition match against Air Force on Wednesday, April 29 at 4:00 p.m. at Cadet Soccer Stadium. This is the third-annual match between the teams.
Saturday's game at Miami will double as a U.S. Open Cup match, with the winner of the game advancing in the tournament. Colorado crashed out of the tournament last season when they were defeated by the USISL Chicago Stingers.
Saturday's match will also be the first time Colorado has faced Matt Kmosko since the defender was selected in the expansion draft by the Fusion.
* Saturday will also mark a reunion of the 1997 Alianza Lima club
that won the Peruvian championship. Colorado's Waldir and Marquinho,
along with the Fusion's Jerry Tamashiro, were all members of that
championship club.
* Four of the Rapids' six games this season have not been settled
in 90 minutes, and Colorado has gone 2-2 in the shootouts.
* Waldir recorded his first MLS multi-goal game Saturday and moved
into a tie for 12th place on the MLS points leader board with seven
(three goals, one assist).
* Miami fell to 3-4 (5 points) with a 3-0 loss to New England on
Saturday. The expansion Fusion have allowed 14 goals, while scoring
only four times.
* The Los Angeles Galaxy extended its lead in the Western
Conference standings with 5-1 win over the Mutiny Saturday. The
undefeated Galaxy now has 16 points from six matches.
* D.C. United defeated the Columbus Crew 2-1 in a shootout on
Sunday in a possible Eastern Conference Finals preview. United's Jaime
Moreno sent the game to the shootout with a goal in the 89th minute.
* JOEY DIGIAMARINO will miss Saturday's game with a concussion
suffered in an April 21 exhibition match. He is out 10-14 days from the
day of the injury.
* MARQUIS WHITE is also battling a groin strain, and is
questionable for Saturday.
