* Rapids defender Peter Vermes will sit out Wednesday's match
through suspension following a red card he picked up in Saturday's loss
at Miami. Vermes was sent off for receiving a second yellow card, and
must serve a subsequent one-game suspension against the Galaxy.
Vermes is the second Rapids player to be sent off this season,
after Chris Henderson was sent off for a tackle from behind in the 6th
minute on March 28 in San Jose.
Colorado only had two players sent off the entire season last
year, Matt Kmosko (now with the Miami fusion) and Steve Trittschuh.
* Six players have now been shown a red card in a Rapids game this
season, two Rapids and four opponents (Ted Eck, Danny Pena, Henry
Gutierrez, Marcelo Herrera).
Colorado has been forced to play short-handed for a total of 94
minutes this season (84 minutes on 3/28 and 10 minutes on Saturday in
Miami). In that time, Colorado has scored two goals, while giving up
three goals.
When up a man, which they have been on three occasions this
season for a total of 66 minutes, Colorado has scored twice (both
Saturday in Miami), and has yet to give up a goal.
* Colorado has been getting significant production from the
substitute's bench this season, as players coming off the bench during a
game in 1998 have combined to score five goals and four assists.
Colorado has a total of 15 goals and 18 assists for the season.
* Wolde Harris has made the most of limited playing time this
season, scoring three goals and adding an assist in only 120 minutes of
time this season.
Marquinho has also contributed in limited minutes, totaling two
goals and two assists while only playing 226 of a possible 630 minutes
so far in 1998.
* Rapids 1998 second-round college draft pick Jason Boyce made the
most of his MLS debut on Saturday. Boyce came on as a substitute in the
76th minute, and with his first touch, picked out Wolde Harris, who
headed home to give Boyce an assist within a minute of coming on for his
first game.
Boyce was the second MLS newcomer to have a memorable start, as
Rapids forward Marquis White earlier this season scored a goal with his
first possession ever in MLS, coming on as a substitute in San Jose and
scoring a goal a minute later.
* Colorado's loss to the Fusion Saturday was the first time this
season that the Rapids had lost to a team that brought a sub-.500 record
into the game. Before losing to Miami (3-4 entering the game), Colorado
was 3-0 against teams that had lost more times than they had won coming
in.
On the flip side, the Rapids have yet to defeat a team that
entered the game over .500, losing both times they faced a winning team
(Los Angeles and D.C. United).
* After Wolde Harris headed in Colorado's first goal on Saturday, four of Colorado's fifteen goals this season have now come on headers. Two of Paul Bravo's three goals have been headed in, while Peter Vermes, along with Harris, have also used their heads to score for the Rapids.
* Colorado has scored nine of its fifteen goals this season in the
final 30 minutes of games, and has scored four in the final ten minutes
of games alone.
However, the Rapids have given up six goals in the final fifteen
minutes of the first half.
JOEY DIGIAMARINO will miss this week's games with a concussion suffered in an April 21 exhibition match.
MARQUIS WHITE is also battling a groin strain, and is doubtful for Wednesday, but questionable for Saturday.
