NEWS RELEASE

DENVER (Tuesday, June 30, 1998) - The 1997 Major League Soccer Western Conference champion Colorado Rapids will honor punter Tom Rouen and the 1998 Super Bowl champion Denver Broncos in a ceremony before the Rapids face the NY/NJ MetroStars on Saturday night at Mile High Stadium. Rouen will kick out the ceremonial first ball before the 7:00 p.m. kickoff. The Rapids will then face the MetroStars, with the game immediately followed by Colorado's biggest and best fireworks display. Last year, more than 36,000 fans packed Mile High Stadium to watch the Rapids defeat the San Jose Clash 3-1, and then stayed after to witness what has been widely recognized as one of the top fireworks displays in the state.
This year, an even bigger turnout is expected as Marcelo Balboa, Chris Henderson and the Rapids battle fellow U.S. World Cup stars Alexi Lalas, Tony Meola and the New York/New Jersey MetroStars. Tickets for the soccer/fireworks Fourth of July celebration are on sale now through the Rapids' ticket line at (303) 299-1599, all front range King Soopers locations, Ticketmaster outlets, and soccer specialty stores.
