MLS' HOTTEST TEAM HOSTS FIRST-PLACE GALAXY WEDNESDAY:

The Rapids, winners of eight of their last ten games, will have their current form put to the test when they face the first-place Los Angeles Galaxy on Wednesday night at Mile High Stadium. Colorado, once 3-8 and mired in last place, has vaulted into third place with an 11-10 record and is a mere eight points behind second-place Chicago, with a game in hand.

The Rapids are coming off a week which saw them win back-to-back road games, beating Tampa Bay 3-2 on July 25, followed by a 3-1 win over the New England Revolution last Wednesday.

RAPIDS' SIX-GAME HOME STREAK ON THE LINE:

Colorado returns home to Mile High Wednesday boasting a team-record six-game home winning streak. On the season, Colorado is 8-2 at home, with one of the losses a 1-0 decision to Los Angeles all the way back on April 4.

MEXICAN SCORING LEGEND TO MAKE MILE HIGH DEBUT:

Mexico's all-time leading scorer, legendary forward Carlos Hermosillo, will make his Colorado debut on Wednesday night with his Los Angeles Galaxy. Signed by the Galaxy earlier this season, Hermosillo has scored 36 goals for the Mexican National Team, and has scored 275 goals in the Mexican First Division.

BRAVO HAS RAPIDS' SINGLE-SEASON SCORING RECORDS IN SIGHTS:

Paul Bravo's goal in New England was his ninth of the season, surpassing his entire 1997 team-leading regular season total of eight. Bravo is closing in on the Rapids' single-season scoring record, set by Jean Harbor in 1996, with eleven goals. Bravo also is closing in on the team total points record, which was set last season by Chris Henderson with 28. Bravo has 24 points (9 goals, 6 assists), with two points given for each goal and one for an assist.

RAPIDS' DEFENSE KEY TO SEASON TURNAROUND:

The Rapids' remarkable turnaround can be traced to defense over the last ten games. In the first 11 games of the season, the Rapids gave up 31 goals (2.82 per game) and were 3-8. In the last ten games, the Rapids have given up only 12 goals (1.2 per game), leading to the 8-2 record in that stretch.

COLORADO NATIVE MARTINEZ PRODUCING IN FIRST FULL SEASON:

In his first year as a regular starter, defender and Colorado native Chris Martinez' runs out of the back have produced six assists, good for third on the team in that category (Paz 10, Henderson 8, Bravo also on 6).

RAPIDS LOOK TO GO TWO GAMES OVER .500 FOR FIRST TIME EVER:

A win over the Galaxy on Wednesday night at Mile High would put the Rapids (11-10) two games over .500 for the first time in the team's three-year history. Colorado is currently over .500 for what is only the team's third time ever.
