Once 3-8, Rapids Have Won Eight Of Their Last Ten Games Overall And
Six Straight At Mile High To Move Within Three Games Of Second Place
WHAT: The Colorado Rapids will host the first-place Los Angeles Galaxy
on Wednesday night, August 5, at 7:00 p.m. at Mile High Stadium.
RECORDS: Colorado (11-10, 29 points, 3rd in Western Conference)
Los Angeles (16-6, 46 points, 1st in Western Conference)
TV: No local
RADIO: KKFN 950-AM (English)
KMXA 1090-AM (Spanish)
RAPIDS FIND THEIR FLOW:
Colorado has won eight of its last ten league games to vault from last place into third, only trailing second-place Chicago by eight points and possessing a game in hand. Once 3-8 and mired in the Western Conference cellar, the Rapids have now put themselves in a strong position to secure one of four Western Conference playoff spots.
RECORD HOME WINNING STREAK ON THE LINE:
Despite not playing at home since July 11, Colorado is currently on a six-game home winning streak. On the season, the Rapids are 8-2 at Mile High Stadium, with one of the losses coming to the Galaxy in the 1998 home opener, a 1-0 loss on April 4.
FINAL THIRD OF SEASON CONFERENCE-HEAVY:
BRAVO CLOSING IN ON SEASON SCORING MARKS
With 11 games remaining in the regular season and only 17 points separating second place from last, Colorado will play eight of the final 11 games against Western Conference opponents. Six of the 11 games will be played at home. Rapids leading scorer Paul Bravo (9 goals, 6 assists = 24 points) is closing in on both the Rapids' single-season goal scoring and total points records. Jean Harbor's 11 goals in 1996 is the most ever scored by a Rapid in one season, and Chris Henderson's 28 points last season stands as the highest season total in that category.
RAPIDS TO MEASURE UP AGAINST MLS' BEST:
Colorado will look to validate their current form when they face the Galaxy, who lead the entire MLS with 46 points. Los Angeles has won all three meetings between the clubs this season, with this the final match between the teams.
HERMOSILLO TO MAKE COLORADO DEBUT:
Mexico's all-time leading scorer, Carlos Hermosillo, will make his Colorado debut Wednesday with Los Angeles. Hermosillo, signed by L.A. earlier this season, has scored 36 times for the Mexican National Team and has amassed 275 goals in 14 years in the Mexican First Division.
TURNAROUND STARTED AT THE BACK:
In the first 11 games of the season, Colorado gave up 31 goals (2.82 per game) and was 3-8. In the last ten games, Colorado has given up only 12 goals (1.20 per game) and is 8-2 in that stretch.
CHRIS MARTINEZ SETTLING IN NICELY:
Rapids defender and Colorado native Chris Martinez, in his first season as a starter, is now third on the team in assists with six. Signed from the A-League Foxes late last year, Martinez has solidified the right defender slot and trails only Adrian Paz (10) and Chris Henderson (8) in the assist category (Paul Bravo also has six assists).
LEGENDARY MEXICAN BAND "LOS TIGRES DEL NORTE" TO PLAY 8/21:
Legendary Mexican band "Los Tigres Del Norte" will perform a post-game concert on Friday night, August 21, after the Rapids battle Mexican World Cup goalkeeper Jorge Campos and the Chicago Fire at 7:00 p.m. MST at Mile High Stadium.
