NEWS RELEASE

DENVER (Wednesday, August 12, 1998) - The 1998 Major League Soccer trade deadline is set for this Saturday, August 15, and Colorado Rapids general manager Dan Counce said the team may look to deal for an experienced player heading into a heated battle for a playoff berth.
Colorado is currently 11-12 with 29 points, putting them in third place in the Western Conference, which will send the top four teams to the playoffs. With only nine games to play, Colorado is followed closely by the Kansas City Wizards (26 points), Dallas Burn (25) and San Jose Clash (23).
Counce said the Rapids are entertaining offers from other teams, and any move the Rapids would make would be in an attempt to acquire a player to help them qualify for the playoffs, and then make another run at the MLS Cup.
"We are keeping an eye out for a veteran player that could help us at this critical time in the season. We have a nine-game fight on our hands, and if we see something that could help us in that fight, we will make a move," Counce said.
