RAPIDS VAULT INTO THIRD PLACE BY THEMSELVES WITH WIN:

With Saturday's important 3-1 win over the San Jose Clash at Spartan Stadium, Colorado jumped back into third place by themselves with only five games left to play in the regular season.

The Rapids will now face the fifth-place Kansas City Wizards on Wednesday night at Mile High Stadium in a game that could distance the Rapids even further from the teams below and bring them a step closer to clinching a playoff spot. The top four teams in the conference advance to the playoffs.

* If teams tie in the standings, the tie-breaker first goes to head-to-head results between the teams in 1998, then to goal differential for the entire season.

NEW-LOOK RAPIDS PRODUCE NEW RESULT:

Rapids coach Glenn "Mooch" Myernick unveiled a 3-5-2 alignment (three defenders, five midfielders, two forwards) with many players in different roles than usual. Following is a look at some of the changes for Saturday's win:

PLAYER FORMER ROLE NEW ROLE
Peter Vermes Central Defender	Attacking Midfielder
Steve Trittschuh	Central Defender	Defensive Midfielder
Marcelo Balboa Defensive Midfielder	Central Defender
David Vaudreuil Outside Defender	Right Midfielder
Marquis White Substitute Starting Forward
Joey DiGiamarino	Left Defender Left Midfielder

EXHIBITION SET FOR SUNDAY:

Colorado will play an exhibition this Sunday, September 6, in Phoenix against the USISL Arizona Sahuaros. The Sahuaros are a minor-league affiliate of the Rapids.
