"FLYING ELVI" AND FIREWORKS ENCORE TO HIGHLIGHT COLORADO RAPIDS FAN APPRECIATION NIGHT ON SEPTEMBER 19

DENVER (Thursday, September 3, 1998) - The "Flying Elvi," a ten-man skydiving team of Elvis Presley impersonators, will highlight the Colorado Rapids' Fan Appreciation Night, set for Saturday, September 19, at Mile High Stadium.

The "Flying Elvi" will perform immediately following the Rapids' game against the Columbus Crew, which in turn will be followed by the Rapids' bringing back Colorado's biggest and best fireworks show to finish the night.

The game kicks off at 7:00 p.m., with the events to follow.

The ten-man skydiving team of Elvis impersonators was first made famous by its appearance in the movie, "Honeymoon in Vegas."

Jumping out of a plane from heights of 12,000-15,000 feet, the "Elvi" put on a show of flashing lights, smoke trails and precision maneuvers. They free fall for the first 9,000-13,000 feet, reaching speeds of up to 176 feet per second (about 120 miles per hour).

Once they land in the middle of the field at Mile High Stadium, they launch into a nostalgic Elvis Presley show.

The wildly popular group makes several appearances all around the country, as in August alone their appearances will include the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland, and "Elvis Presley's Memphis" on the legendary Beal Street in Tennessee.

The ten Elvis impersonators all keep real day jobs when they are not leaping out of planes and plunging towards the earth wearing full Elvis regalia. Following are the full-time jobs of the ten team members:

After more than 46,000 packed Mile High Stadium to see the Rapids knock off Alexi Lalas and the NY/NJ MetroStars followed by Colorado's biggest and best fireworks extravaganza, the Rapids are bringing the show back for one last 1998 encore.

But this show will have a twist - some good, old-fashioned rock n' roll. The Colorado Rapids Rock n 'Roll Fireworks Show, sponsored by KBCO-97.3 FM and 9News, will feature the Rapids' fireworks show, now known as the premier display on the Fourth of July in the area, set to the latest music provided by KBCO.

As part of "Fan Appreciation Night," the Rapids and Snickers will team up to give the first 7,500 fans in attendance a free Rapids pennant.
