DENVER -- (Friday, October 25, 1996) Despite suffering through a difficult inaugural season, several members of the Colorado Rapids roster are in high demand as various players will join two fellow Major League Soccer squads and a USISL farm team as guest players over the next two weeks.
Three Colorado players - Scott Benedetti, Steve Trittschuh and Denis Hamlett - will join the MLS Westem Conference Champion Los Angeles Galaxy for their international exhibition match this Sunday against Cali of Colombia at the Rose Bowl. Rapids Midfielder Chris Henderson has joined MLS' San Jose Clash squad as they travel to China, while Colorado forward Jean Harbor and defender Matt Kmosko bolster the USISL's Raleigh Flyers' roster for a match against the Trinidad and Tobago National Team on November 7.
This weekend at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, home of the 1996 MLS attendance-leading Los Angeles Galaxy, professional club Cali of Colombia faces a Galaxy roster augmented by Hamlett, the recipient of the 1996 Colorado Rapids/BIC Tough Defensive Player of the Year Award, Trittschuh, winner of the 1996 President's Cup Award and Benedetti, a versatile forward/midfielder. Cali of Colombia will feature the sensational midfielder and winner of the 1996 MLS/Honda Most Valuable Player Award, Carlos Valderrama, on loan from the MLS Eastern Conference regular season Champion Tampa Bay Mutiny. Valderrama will be joined on the Cali roster by four other Colombian National Team members.
Rapids midfielder Chris Henderson, who finished the 1996 season with five goals and a team-high eight assists while capturing the Colorado Rapids/Honda MVP Award, is a guest of the San Jose Clash for their two-week trip to China, where they'll play three exhibition games against Chinese professional teams.
Harbor, the Rapids' 1996 B-udweiser Scoring Champion (with 11 goals and four assists on the season) and Kmosko, who played more than 2,700 minutes of the Rapids' 1996 season, will join the Rapids' top farm club, the Raleigh Flyers of the USISL, for their Thursday, Nov. 7 match against the Trinidad and Tobago National Team. The Flyers' roster also features two other players who saw time during the 1996 Rapids' season, Raimo deVries and Ed Pinion. The Trinidad and Tobago National Team will feature two prominent MLS midfielders, Evans Wise from the Tampa Bay Mutiny and Bryan Haynes of the Dallas Burn.
