NEWS RELEASE

DENVER (Wednesday, November 24, 1999) - The Colorado Rapids today waived forward Marquis White and midfielder Darren Sawatzky, and also declined to renew the contract of forward Guillermo Jara. In the subsequent MLS Waiver Draft held this morning, none of the Colorado players released were claimed, nor did Colorado select any players in the draft.
White, 24, played two seasons with the Rapids since being acquired in the first round of the 1998 Supplemental Draft. He played in 42 games over the two seasons, starting five, and scoring four goals, though all of which came in 1998.
Sawatzky, 26, played just one season for Colorado, joining the Rapids in the first round of the 1999 Supplemental Draft. He played in 14 games this season, starting five, and scored one goal.
Jara, 26, joined the Rapids mid-season via a June 14 trade from the Tampa Bay Mutiny for defender Steve Trittschuh. Jara appeared in just two games for Colorado, playing a total of six minutes.
MLS teams submitted their waivers to the league yesterday, all of which were available for today's waiver draft. Only three players were selected in the draft, Nino DaSilva (#1 -- NY/NJ MetroStars), Gabe Eastman (#4 -- San Jose Earthquakes) and Mario Gori (#9 -- Columbus Crew). All other teams passed. The teams drafted in reverse order of 1999 finish.
