NEWS RELEASE

Colorado Rapids goalkeeper Adin Brown was scheduled to undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee on Friday afternoon. Brown was to undergo the procedure to "clean up" the right meniscus, and is expected to be out approximately 14-21 days, according to Rapids trainer Jay Mellette. Brown, also expected to be the starting goalkeeper for the U.S. Olympic Team at the 2000 Games in Sydney, is expected to miss four league games, beginning this Saturday in D.C. (1:00 p.m. MT, TV: ESPN). David Kramer will assume the starting position, and the Rapids will use A-League call-ups to fill the reserve goalkeeper role.
Colorado travels to D.C. Saturday almost one year to the day after the teams met in a showcase match-up on ESPN between the two top teams in MLS. On July 10, 1999, Colorado defeated D.C., 2-1, in R.F.K. Stadium on ESPN in a game that pitted the top team from each conference. Both teams head into Saturday's game below the .500 mark, with Colorado needing a win to even its record at 9-9-1.
Rapids defender Chris Martinez will miss Saturday's game at D.C. with a right groin strain suffered in Wednesday night's win over Dallas in Denver. Martinez is expected to be back for the July 4th game against Chicago at Mile High Stadium. Colorado will also be without Adin Brown (knee), Henry Zambrano (groin), Joey DiGiamarino (groin), Seth Trembly (hand) and Wes Hart (knee), who did come off injured reserve Thursday, but will not make the trip.
The Colorado Rapids called up goalkeeper Randy Dedini of the Pittsburgh Riverhounds of the A-League. Dedini will fill in as the backup goalkeeper behind David Kramer for Saturday's match-up against D.C. United. Dedini has played in 8 games for the Riverhounds this season and has a record of 4-3-1 and a goals against average of 1.19.
Defending MLS champion D.C. United comes into Saturday's game on the heels of a 2-1 loss to the Los Angeles Galaxy at R.F.K. Stadium on Wednesday night. With the loss, United's record fell to 4-11-4 for 16 points, the lowest total in Major League Soccer. United is led by Jaime Moreno with 22 points (6th in MLS) on nine goals and four assists.
United is expected to be without U.S. National Team midfielder Ben Olsen, who is out with a left ankle sprain.
The Rapids have now lost 79 man-games to injury through 18 games this season (4.4 per game). In addition, Colorado has lost 23 man-games to National Team or Olympic Team duty, for a total of 102 man-games lost this season (5.7 per game). After Chris Martinez was forced to leave Saturday's game with an injured right groin, of the 45 substitutions that Rapids head coach Glenn "Mooch" Myernick has made this season, 13 of them have been due to injury (29%).
