RAPIDS ACQUIRE ROBIN FRASER FROM L.A. GALAXY

Veteran defender and national team member comes back to Denver

DENVER (Monday, April 2, 2001) - Colorado Rapids announce the acquisition of defender Robin Fraser from the Los Angeles Galaxy in exchange for three, successive, second-round draft picks in 2002-2004.

"It is a perfect union," said head coach Tim Hankinson. "In Fraser, we are bringing back a player who played in Denver with the Colorado Foxes, and we are reuniting two players (Marcelo Balboa and Fraser) who have played side-by-side professionally and with the U.S. Men's National Team.

Fraser, 35, is in his sixth season in Major League Soccer. The Galaxy used the fourth overall pick of the inaugural MLS Draft to select Fraser in 1996. A four-time MLS All-Star (1996, 97-00), the former Florida International University All-America has also been named to the league's Pepsi "Best 11" four times (1996, 97-00). As the Galaxy team captain, this former star of the Colorado Foxes (1992-95) anchored a defense that finished first or second in the MLS each of the last four seasons. A perennial candidate for BIC MLS Defender of the Year, Fraser won the award in 1999. He is fourth among Galaxy all-time leaders in games played (129) and started (127), as well as minutes (11,207). A member of the U.S. National Team since 1988, Fraser has registered 26 international appearances.

"The most important thing in building the potential of this squad to be a championship club is to add the experience and the qualities that Fraser brings, it unquestionably strengthens your chances to win a cup," said Hankinson.
