NEWS RELEASE

The Rapids (0-3-1, 1 pt.) travel to Dallas (2-2-0, 6 pts.) to take on the Burn, Friday, in the first meeting between the two teams this season. The series between these two teams is tied at nine games apiece. The Rapids won the series in 2000, 2-0.
The game will be televised regionally on FOX Sports Net. Kickoff is at 6:30 p.m. (MT) and will feature the voices of Marc Stout and former Burn head coach Dave Dir.
Seth Trembly, the Rapids' lone Project 40 player, started his first professional game on Saturday against the LA Galaxy. It was only Trembly's sixth MLS game. And although Trembly's play wasn't spotless, he did shut down several attacks by the Galaxy.
"It was a little shaky at first with the defense giving up those two goals in the first half, but it was good to be out on the field * it's just too bad we lost."
Trembly, a Littleton, Colorado native, who attended Arapahoe High School and helped his team win the 1997 Colorado State Championship, spent most of the game marking another standout from Littleton, Colorado: Brian Mullan. Interestingly enough, Saturday's game was only Mullan's second start in the MLS.
Although the two players hail from the same city, they have only met in club matches. Mullan is four years older than Trembly.
Rapids defender Marcelo Balboa (1 goal, 2 assists in 2001) is one assist shy of reaching the 20 goals/20 assists plateau in Major League Soccer. The versatile defender has been used in a couple games in an offensive, midfield role this season by head coach Tim Hankinson and scored his 20th career goal on April 14th against the MetroStars at Mile High Stadium.
Balboa (20 goals, 19 assists, and 59 points in 131 games) is tops in the league among defenders in scoring and is third all-time for the Rapids.
This Wednesday, the Colorado Rapids join with Ben and Jerry's to celebrate the sixth annual Free Cone Day. From noon to 8 p.m., everyone who comes into Ben & Jerry's Scoop Shop on the Pearl Street Mall in Boulder will receive a free scoop of ice cream. The shop hopes to beat last year's number of 6,000 free cones.
Rapids players Seth Trembly, Steve Herdsman and Rapidman will be there from 4-6 p.m. signing autographs and scooping ice cream. Ben and Jerry's will donate all tips received during the day to the Colorado Rapids "Kicks for Kids" program and the Boulder Jr. Soccer League's scholarship program.
Ben and Jerry's Scoop Shop is located at 1203 Pearl Street in Boulder on the Pearl Street Mall (Pearl and Broadway). For more information, contact Sean Maher or Kara Williams at 303.545.6019.
