FIRST ANNUAL "RUN THE RAPIDS" EVENT A HUGE SUCCESS FOR THE COLORADO RAPIDS COMMUNITY CARE FOUNDATION

Colorado Rapids raise over $17,000 at two-mile run/walk

DENVER (Monday, September 24, 2001) - The Colorado Rapids Community Care Foundation (CRCCF) continued to establish itself as a top charitable organization on Saturday, September 8, raising over $17,000 with the First Annual "Run the Rapids" two-mile run/walk at Mile High Stadium.

Despite the rainy, 45 degree weather, almost 600 runners were able to cross the finish line inside the stadium where they received a goodie bag, ticket to the game, and race T-shirt.

Denver Parks and Recreation Manager James Mejia helped get the event started, while WB2 morning weather anchor Amy Freeze served as the honorary race chairperson. Both ran and finished the race.

The overall men's winner was Juan Amores, with a time of 10:47 and the overall women's winner was Patti Tisdall, who crossed the finish line with a time of 14:07. Both winners are Denver residents. Final race results and finishing times are available at www.coloradorapids.com or www.bkbltd.com.

CRCCF would like to thank the following major sponsors for making the event a success: First National Bank of Colorado, David Abookire (Certified Massage Therapist for the Colorado Rapids), Beauty Brands, BKB Ltd., Chick-Fil-A, Global Golf & Gift, M&M Mars, Nike Golf, Ocean Journey, Runners Choice, Rudy Project USA, Runners Roost, United Artists and WB2 News.

Because of the success of this year's race, the CRCCF plans to continue this tradition next year with the Second Annual "Run the Rapids" race.

The Colorado Rapids Community Care Foundation strives to promote and encourage underprivileged children to participate in activities, such as soccer, as a means to build character, improve self-esteem, and to develop interpersonal and leadership skills.
