COLORADO RAPIDS TO PARTICIPATE IN MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER
INAUGURAL SEASON DRAFT FEBRUARY 6-7
Major League Soccer's Colorado Rapids, owned by Denver industrialist Phillip F. Anschutz, will
hold their first annual player draft on Feb 6 and 7 at their headquarters in Denver. Working
the Rapids' draft "war room" will be Head Coach Bob Houghton, his assistants, and Rapids Vice
President Dean Linke. The war room will include complete charts of all the players and each of
the 10 MLS teams' draft choices. Media are welcome to view the war room and gather reports
on the Rapids' early-round draft picks. Rapids General Manager Richard A. Levine will be the
Rapids' contact person at the MLS draft proceedings in New York City.
Many of the players eligible for the draft include U.S. National Team members, international
stars, collegiate All-Amerimm and more than 150 of the players who competed at the MLS
Player Combine earlier this month. The two-day draft will provide the Rapids with the bulk of
their roster, bringing its total to 18 players. Local names included in the inaugural draft are Mark
Dodd. Ted Eck, Robin Fraser, Brian Haynes and Tom Soehn. "Marquee players" already
allocated to the Colorado Rapids include U.S. National team stars forward Roy Wegerle and
midfielder Dominic Kinnear. The team expects to announce its final two allocations before the
draft.
