NEWS RELEASE

DENVER (Monday, June 24, 2002) - The Colorado Rapids of Major League Soccer (MLS), in conjunction with KTVD UPN-20 are proud to announce a special July 4th Fireworks Presentation, "Celebrate America," to be broadcast live from INVESCO Field at Mile High.
The presentation - the first ever at INVESCO Field - is scheduled to begin at 9 p.m. (MST) live on KTVD UPN-20 following the conclusion of MLS action, as the Colorado Rapids take on the Chicago Fire at 7 p.m. The 4th of July at Mile High, which has been marked by an increase in attendance each year since its inception in 1996, saw 60,500 fans pack the seats in 2001 and is expected to be even larger this year.
In response to the recent wildfires in the area, cities statewide have cancelled July 4th fireworks displays this year. The Colorado Rapids and KTVD-UPN 20 want to provide a safe way to enjoy "Colorado's Biggest and Best Fireworks Display" for everyone in the Denver Metro Area and across the state.
Despite the announcement by Governor Owens banning fireworks in Colorado because of the current drought emergency, the ban does not apply to professional shows. Since the Colorado Rapids annual fireworks extravaganza at INVESCO Field at Mile High falls into this category and has been confirmed with the City/County of Denver and State of Colorado, our display following the July 4 game against Chicago will go on as planned.
The Fireworks will be synchronized to music and will include songs such as New York, New York, God Bless America, and The 1812 Overture. Colorado's own Blue Knights Drum & Bugle Corps will be on hand to entertain the crowd with one of their signature, high-energy performances before and after the display. Other pre-show and post-show entertainment will be covered by local hosts, to be determined.
Advertisers in "Celebrate America" will donate 50% of all advertising costs to the American Red Cross, to help aid victims of the Colorado Wildfires.
Please join us in celebrating our country's independence with "Colorado's Biggest and Best Fireworks Display" brought to you by the Colorado Rapids and KTVD-UPN 20.
Tickets are still available for the Colorado Rapids versus Chicago Fire game and post-game celebration.
