COLORADO RAPIDS COMMUNITY CARE FOUNDATION RAISES OVER $15,000 FOR CHARITY WITH SECOND ANNUAL 'RUN THE RAPIDS' STADIUM RACE

DENVER (Wednesday, July 31, 2002)-The Colorado Rapids Community Care Foundation hosted its second annual "Run The Rapids" Race/Walk on Saturday, July 27, preceding the Rapids match against the Dallas Burn. Participants ran a 2.7-mile course that led them through INVESCO Field, and ended just outside the stadium.

The event was a financial and social success, raising over $15,000 for charity and bringing participants together to celebrate running and soccer. Individual winners for men and women received medals, and all participants took home prize packages from sponsors. Chris Jacquin from Golden, took top honors in the men's division with a total time of 15:15, and a pace of 5:52, while Maria L. Hopp from Littleton, won the women's division with a total time of 19:15 and a pace of 7:25. Other race results and pictures available for order may be found at www.coloradorapids.com.

The race was made possible by the sponsorship support of AT&T Broadband, First National Bank, American Family Insurance, Rudy Project Sunglasses, and Pellow Chiropractic. Companies who generously donated items to the prize packages for the racers were Budweiser, Nestle Milo, Swedish Beverages, Pepsi, and Runners World.

The charitable arm of the Major League Soccer team, the Colorado Rapids Community Care Foundation strives to promote and encourage underprivileged children to participate in activities, such as soccer, as a means to build character, improve self-esteem, and to develop interpersonal and leadership skills.
