COLORADO CALLS IN FORMER RAPIDS KEEPER DUSTY HUDOCK FOR D.C. UNITED GAME SATURDAY

Former Rapid To Join Team From A-League Seattle Sounders After Paul Grafer Leaves On Family Business

DENVER (Thursday, April 9, 1998) - The Colorado Rapids have called up former Rapids goalkeeper Dusty Hudock from the A-League Seattle Sounders for Saturday's MLS Cup '97 rematch against D.C. United. Colorado made the call-up from its A-League affiliate after reserve goalkeeper Paul Grafer had to leave the team temporarily on family business.

Hudock played for the Rapids in 1996, going 3-6 in nine games with a 1.78 goals against average. Hudock did record two shutouts in those nine appearances.

In 1997, Hudock joined the A-league Sounders and turned in a stellar season, earning first-team All A-League honors while leading the league in shutouts (15) and goals against average (0.67).

Grafer, yet to appear in a game this season, is expected back for Colorado's next game, set for next Sunday, April 19, against the Tampa Bay Mutiny at Mile High.

Colorado faces the two-time defending MLS champions, D.C. United, this Saturday at 5:30 p.m. MST at R.F.K. Stadium. The game, a rematch of D.C.'s 2-1 win over Colorado in MLS Cup '97, will be aired live nationally on ESPN.

1997 SEASON: Returned to the Seattle Sounders of the A-League after a one-season stint in MLS with the Rapids... Finished with the top G.A.A. in the A-League at .670 ... Tallied the most shutouts (15) in the league in 1997... Earned first team All A-League honors for his efforts between the posts...Helped the Sounders to a second place finish in the Pacific Division, losing to Vancouver 86ers in the Western Division finals.

1996 SEASON: Hudock started nine games in 1996 for the Colorado Rapids, allowing 16 goals and posting two shutouts for a 1.78 G.A.A... Started eight of the first 11 Rapids matches, before deferring to Chris Woods for 21 consecutive games until the final regular season match against D.C. United... Had a total of 37 saves with three wins and six losses in his nine games in goal.

U.S. NATIONAL TEAM: Made three appearances with the U.S. National "B" Team from 1993-94.

PRO OUTDOOR CAREER: Hudock was a member of the APSL's Seattle Sounders 1995 championship team, where he backed up Rapids' starting goalkeeper Marcus Hahnemann... He started six games in the 1994 season with Seattle, finishing his rookie season with a 1.29 goals against average, allowing just eight goals in more than 500 minutes of play... Hudock earned his first professional shutout, 1-0, on September 17, 1994, against Toronto... He tended the nets in the Sounders' first ever win on June 11, 1994, in a preseason match against the UNAM Pumas of the Mexican first division.

COLLEGE CAREER: Hudock was a three-year starter and a two-time All-American at the University of Washington, where he played from 1991-1993... Played on the World University Games squad in 1992... Finished the 1992 season with 11 shutouts and the No. 1 goals against average in the nation (.50 in 21 games)... Hudock led the UW Huskies to its first ever NCAA tournament win in 1992 by knocking out Portland in the first round... In his collegiate career, Hudock totaled 213 saves in 58 games, and posted 25 shutouts.

PERSONAL: Hudock was born in Cleveland, Ohio, and raised in Phoenix, Arizona, where he attended Deer Valley High School... Helped his high school team win the state championship tournament his senior year... He began playing soccer at the age of 5.
