DENVER (August 29, 1996) -- The Colorado Rapids extend their deepest sympathies to goalkeeper Dustin Hudock and his family on the death of Hudock's father in Phoenix, Ariz., yesterday. Hudock will remain in Phoenix for the next several days.
Filling in on the roster for Hudock will be Matt Mennell, a local favorite from Colorado Springs, Colo. Mennell attended college at the Air Force Academy, where he was a three-year starter. The 6-foot-3, 230-pound 'keeper helped lead the Falcons to the NCAA tournament his sophomore year when the Acaderny defeated No. 1 seed Creighton and advanced to the Final 8.
Mennell was born on April 2, 1973, in Pittsburgh, Penn. He spent his youth in Bristol, Tenn., where he attended Bristol High School and was a three-time all-regional selection before being named to the all-state teams in both soccer and football his senior year.
The three-time All-MPSF goalkeeper spent the past two seasons with the Colorado Springs Stampede, a USISL affiliate of the Rapids.
