DENVER (Tuesday, Sept. 10, 1996) -- The Colorado Rapids announced today that head coach Bob Houghton has resigned. The Rapids are 11-20 with one game remaining and failed to qualify for the playoffs. Houghton's team struggled throughout the season with injuries to several key players.
Rapids President Bob Sanderman thanked Coach Houghton for his efforts on behalf of the team and stated that he understood the coach's frustration with the lackluster results this season.
In addition, the Colorado Rapids announced that Bruce Brown would no longer serve as assistant coach.
The Rapids plan to name an interirn coach for the last Game (scheduled for August 21 at Washington, D.C.) later this week.
