The Colorado Rapids outplayed the LA Galaxy, but the Galaxy emerged victorious. It was in the tiebreaking shootout that the Rapids lost the game. Several of the Rapids players' timing was off, and the Galaxy goalkeeper beat them to the ball. Out of 8 shooters, only 3 Rapids scored. LA was not much better at it. Out of their 8 shooters, only 4 scored.
The Colorado Rapids missed a golden opportunity in the 4th minute of the game, when Benedetti failed to convert a one on one by rushing the ball and missing the goal from inside the box.
On the other hand, Rapids Goalkeeper, Chris Woods, denied Cobi Jones' point blank shot, making a fantastic save.
At the end of regulation time, the game was tied 2-2.
