Colorado Rapids outscored NY/NJ MetroStars 2-1 to win their game, July 4, 1996 at Mile High Stadium in Denver, in front of 20,000.
Tab Ramos (#10) of the MetroStars scored the first goal in the 56th minute, on an assist from Ian Hennessey. In the 68th minute, Jean Harbor (#13) of the Rapids, crossed the ball past Goalkeeper Tony Meola, when Nicola Caricola (#5), intending to clear the ball over the goal, instead scored an unstopable own goal.
One minute after Rapids' Scott Cannon (#15) subbed in, he passed the ball to Shaun Bartlett (#9), who in turn passed it to Steve Trittschuh who scored.
The win raises the Rapids' record to 7-9.
A great fireworks display followed the game.
